A current challenge facing the field is Big Data and the exponential growth of data being generated worldwide that await analysis. A consequence is that the demand for skilled statisticians has been steadily rising. Statistics uses tools from mathematics, probability and computing to develop specific statistical approaches for prediction, classification, learning, estimation and hypothesis testing.
The Department was established in the year 1995 as subsidiary department to the Mathematics department. Ms. Geetha Antony Pullen joined the Department in the year 1996. The department is offering subsidiary course to the Department of Computer Science from 1999. Department faculty are committed to provide students with excellent training and a broad education in Statistics.
