An essay writing competition was organized on the topic ‘THINK, EAT, SAVE’ in connection with the celebration of World Environment Day. The competition was open to all the students of the College. The essays were scrutinized and the three best entries were selected. Aswathy PG of IInd year Zoology won the first prize, Arun VV of IIIrd year Zoology won the second and Shine Thomas of IIIrd year Mathematics won the third prize. Cash prize of Rs 500 for first prize and Rs 300 each for second and third prizes were given away by the Faculty-in-charge, Dr AR Sudha Devi.
The BMC members had an interaction with Ms. Anilitty (M Sc student, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun), an alumnus of our college on 07.08.2013, in the Biological Techniques lab. She spoke on ‘The Lifecycle of Dragonflies’.
A talk show on ‘Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel (WGEEP)’, popularly known as “Madhav Gadgil Report”, was conducted on 21.08.2013 for the members of the BMC. The resource person, Mr Sudheesh is associated with the Kerala State Biodiversity Board.
A talk by Sri Manuel PJ on ‘Importance of Medicinal Plants’ was held on 24.08.2013, for the BMC members. He spoke on the importance of medicinal plants, their use in nearly all cultures to prevent or treat illness.
A talk show by Mr Remith M, Field Officer, Wildlife Trust of India, on ‘Biodiversity Loss in Western Ghats: Concerns and Actions’ on 31.08.2013 for the BMC members.
A talk by Sr. Innocent on ‘Importance of Good Health’ was conducted on 7.9.2013 for the BMC members. She spoke about the importance of health in personal life, value of healtheducation and some home remedies for common health problems. Sr. Innocent is associated with the Wayanad Social Service Society and also the health co-ordinator of ‘Janasoukya’.
