Profile of Commerce Department

Anticipating the importance of commerce education in the years to come the opinion that the college must have its contribution in meeting the demands of the business and industrial world and decided to start commerce education in the college.

Established in June 2001, under Self-Financing Stream, the Department of Commerce has been offering B Com with Computer Application course. The Department has been elevated to the Aided Status recently in 2011 and three permanent teachers joined the department. All the faculty have ongoing minor research projects funded by UGC. The Department also offers Open Courses in Financial Services and Insurance & Risk Management

Mary Matha’s three-year Bachelor of Commerce degree opens the doors to the executive level of business. Our small class sizes and top-notch faculty means that you’ll get the best possible education to prepare you for your career in business.As the complexity of our knowledge-based economy increases, so too has the education demand in our workforce. The new millennium has seen a significant increase in commerce degree holders for entry-level positions.

Facilities

  • Library : The Central Library has a collection of nearly 1000 volumes of Text Books and journals.
  • Laboratories : For Complementary Subject, Students Utilize the services of the Computer Lab
  • Computer and Internet facilities for Staff & Students : Two Computers in Staff Room, and NRC for students
  • Class rooms with ICT facility: Two Classrooms Various audiovisual facilities are regularly made use of. Students are also encouraged to produce e-material as part of their assignments and seminars.

In addition to curricular activities Commerce students participating in the various competitions and festivals conducted by the other institutions and agencies and won fabulous prizes .

The Department always taken care of encouraging students to involve in the activities of NSS, NCC, the college Union, Nature Club, Red Ribbon Club, Entrepreneurial Club, Red Cross and various other Clubs and Associations.

Many of our alumni have gone on to study in premier institutions in India and abroad and then progressed to highly rewarding careers. Most of them are of the Department have been pursuing their higher studies in M.Com, MBA, MHRM, MCJ, MSW etc. and many are placed as Accountants, Managers, Teachers, Journalists and Social Workers.
