Objectives of the Practice: We have established different mechanism for establishing the greenery campus. The campus always targets to plant indigenous seedlings in the campus. This provides fruit bearing around the year and supporting the campus to maintain water quality and cooling condition. The main attractive of the campus are surrounded with trees where the students sit under the trees during the leisure time.

The Context: Mary Matha College is mainly known for its eco-friendly campus. We are situated on a beautiful hilltop on the Mananthavady-Mysore Highway amidst the sprawling greenery of the Western Ghats, one of the crucial bio-diversity hot spots.

The Practice:  We have different mechanism Propagations are done through a well-established nursery and seedlings are producing by trained staff. Seedlings of black pepper, vegetable, spices and horticultural varieties like fruit plants are propagating here and planting in the campus in proper seasons. Slurry and manure for the seedlings are produced within the campus through bio gas plant and organic manure production unit set up near cow farm. In addition to this a vermin compost unit also set up in the campus for good quality manure.

Evidence of Success: 100% of Mary Matha College is surrounded by natural beauty with blooming and flowering plants which fill ups the campus with fresh air. The students are enjoyed and relaxing under the shades of trees.

Problems Encountered and Resources Required: Mary Matha College symbolizes the realization of the dreams and aspirations of the people of the tribal, minority concentrated and backward hill-district of Wayanad. The major reason for selecting this place as the site for the College was to provide a pristine pollution-free environment to the students, conducive to academic activities. Frequent monitoring of water facilities and proper reporting of issues and taking necessary steps to resolve those issues help reduce water wastage and increase the quality of water supply.
